PostSubject: Four females' housing   Sun Jan 20, 2008 2:22 pm

Hi everyone. I'm new here :D I was just wondering if you think 1.2 x 2.2 metres is sufficient cage space for four female guineas that receive free range time daily.. It will also have a little upstairs area... Any comments appreciated!

I think four females are supose to have about two panels by 5 or so in a C & C cage.

The bigger the better and happier they are.

If you have a store bought cage and don't want to buy a bigger one, there are some things you can do to enlarge the existing space. If you have flat space outside the cage, use grids or Critter Trail Play Pen to make a play area. If you put something in the cage so the girls can go in and out the door without getting hurt, they can roam to the play area, while the food and sleeping areas stay in the cage. Even well shaped rocks work to get them out of the cage, and cover the door flap with sturdy cardboard so they can walk on it.
Use a vynil table cloth as a floor in the area, and it will be very inexpensive and easy to clean. To keep the beans in the play area, just bring the edges of the table cloth up the sides a little, and tie the corners with elastics, twist ties, or whatever you have available. A box of grids costs about $20, but the table cloth shouldn't cost more than $5, and if you use elastics or twists you already have, they're free.
